Benedict could be done with Trek and Hobbit by March. I had heard that Hobbit has more hiatuses scheduled, probably for this reason. If they shoot in the spring they could do this.
And here’s the other thing. If they commissioned series 3 at the same time as series 2, they probably scheduled the shoot at the same time, and this would have to have been part of the agreement with the Hobbit people. They would have wanted to do that to get their guys locked in. So Ben and Martin have probably been scheduling themselves around the S3 Sherlock shoot for a long time now.
