Sometimes people say really strange things
Hey dude, I totally feel you on this. I think I might understand the intended meaning, however I think it was put poorly. If I may contrast with an section in Craig Ferguson’s autobiography, “American on Purpose,” he talks about growing up amidst the punk/alternative scene in 1970/80s Glasgow. I would quote him directly except my copy is somewhere in my bedroom and I’m too lazy to dig it out. Anyways, he wrote that he always wished he was cool enough to be gay, that being an out gay man during that period of time was far more courageous and badass than running around in all black, yelling for anarchy and playing in punk bands. I think that’s an expressively different statement than “it’s just cool to be gay.” It’s cool to be yourself, sure. But taking an identity and fetishizing it is always wrong. Always.
I’m sorry if this is incoherently written. I worked a 10 hours shifts today, 6 of those hours I spent organizing dildos. So, you know, brain melt.
Peace and respect.
