I am really, really trying hard not to rely too heavily on painkillers this period. I realize it’s probably not so great for my system when I’m like, “Fuck it, I’ll take 800 mg of ibuprofen every 4 hours for a week straight,” but the pain I get before, during, and after my period is pretty terrible.
I know, wah wah, period pain. But to put some perspective on the situation: simultaneously breaking my ulna and my radius (arm bones, yall) was a 6 on my pain scale (I know pain scales are kind of bullshit but bare with me, I’m attempting to use this comparative scale), I’ve gotten severe migraines that I can safely say were a 7, and the most severe pain I’ve ever felt was the stabbing, literally paralyzing pain from ovarian spasms (potential cyst irritation) that I would put at an 8.5.
I like to think I’ve never experienced a 9 or 10 (apparently most people never experience a 10) but getting close to 9 is something that I try to avoid as avidly as possible, and one I get past a 7 I’m usually like screw it, I need painkillers and I don’t care how many I’ve taken today or when.
However, I’ve decided to not be crazy about ibuprofen this period and instead am trying out 400 mg of acetaminophen every 6 hours, which is not easy because the pain I’ve learned to expect from my period literally makes me anxious and untrusting when it comes to taking the directed, normal dose of any given painkiller. However, I’m think I’m doing okay. Even though the end of that 6 hour period is usually really crampy and uncomfortable. Which is why this is so poorly written.
4. Ugh.
TLDR; I need to remove my ovaries soon.
